In celebration of Lunar New Year 2025, Chinese fashion designer Shuting Qiu embraced color and prints when creating three limited-edition decanter designs for luxury cognac purveyor Hennessy.
Each year, Hennessy collaborates with a new artist on cognac packaging to fete Chinese New Year. After Year of the Dragon in 2024 with Yang Yongliang, the LVMH brand tapped Shanghai-based fashion designer Shuting Qiu for 2025’s Year of the Snake. The tie-up has given rise to the Reimagination collection, which consists of three limited-edition decanters for different Hennessy cognacs.
Qiu, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, found inspiration in Chinese brocade, jacquard fabric and embroidery prints used in clothing and textiles in her hometown of Hangzhou, China. Each carafe features abstract interpretations of a snake; the creature’s “movements through the patterns evokes the Charente River in Cognac”, according to Hennessy.
VSOP, X.O and Paradis limited editions
The red Paradis decanter features an “abstract and poetic” snake design and sports a leather collar with a soft touch graphic motif. For the X.O, Qui imagined lozenge shapes influenced by traditional Chinese motifs. The decanter is topped with a gold-colored cork and comes in a gift box embossed with what is described as a blend of patterns with an “almost fabric-like texture”.
